Michigan Soft Drink Association: Recycle bottles with the cap on

6468

As you open your favorite beverage on Earth Day, take a moment to look at the cap. Maybe you’ll see a new message to remind you to recycle that bottle with the cap on. If not, you soon will.

The Coca-Cola Company, Keurig Dr Pepper and PepsiCo are rolling out this uniform on-cap message to remind consumers our plastic bottles are designed to be 100% recyclable and can be made into new bottles if recycled. This is our industry’s latest action to get our bottles back so they can be remade as intended, which means less plastic in our lakes, rivers and parks.

We also are working to increase recycling rates in Michigan, which will reduce waste in the environment and decrease our use of new plastic. We can’t just rely on our deposit law, which recycles only 2% of our waste stream. So, in the past year, we’ve invested in a forthcoming Recycling Education Center in Lansing and partnered with the Closed Loop Partners and The Recycling Partnership to help rebuild a Material Recovery Facility in Ann Arbor and bring free recycling carts to curbs in Marquette with more to come.

Earth Day is a time for all of us to come together and do what we can to protect and preserve our planet. Even the smallest actions can have a great impact. So next time you’re about to finish your favorite beverage, remember you can help us get every bottle back by recycling it with the cap on.
