Change Ups: Cimitile tapped as GVSU provost, executive VP

Starting July 1, with the opportunity for an extension, Maria Cimitile will be Grand Valley State University’s new provost and executive vice president for academic and student affairs. Cimitile currently is GVSU’s associate vice president for academic affairs. Previous administrative positions include associate dean for students and curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2005. She then returned to her faculty position three years later and then worked in various positions within the provost's office in 2009 followed by associate vice president in 2015.

CONSTRUCTION

Rockford Construction was awarded a $6.3-million loan and $13 million in Tax Increment Financing through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Michigan Strategic Fund for a planned mixed-use development on Grand Rapids’ West Side at the corner of Bridge Street and Seward Avenue. The project includes a Meijer grocery store, 116 market-rate apartments Rockford will manage, a 275-space parking deck and an office and retail building. The West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology will occupy 20,000 square feet of the available 56,000. The development also includes an affordable housing development by Inner City Christian Federation; the first floor of ICCF’s building will feature retail space.
