Thomas M. Cooley Law School’s Center for Ethics, Service and Professionalism presented the Student Great Deeds Award to Sarah Miller. Miller is a longtime volunteer with Kids Hope USA, a nonprofit organization that pairs church members with at-risk kids. Kids Hope mentors spend one hour per week reading, talking, playing and listening to children. Miller was recognized for her service commitment, leadership skills, work ethic and academic excellence in law school and beyond.

The Hope College chapter of Mortar Board earned multiple honors for the 2013-14 school year, presented at the national organization’s annual summer conference. The Kent County Health Department has repurposed the former Kentwood Library, 4700 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, into the Kent County South Clinic. It will provide WIC, immunizations and other KCHD services and is partnering with the Michigan Community Dental Clinics Inc. to provide dental services. The clinic will offer discounted services for people who are uninsured or underinsured.

The Grand Rapids Griffins announced the addition of Dave Noel-Bernier to the hockey operations staff as an assistant coach. He is a native of Montmagny, Quebec, and has served as the director of hockey for the Eagles Ice Center and Grand Rapids Blades youth program since 2013.
National Congress of State Games officials announced Grand Rapids is one of four cities in the running to host the 2017 State Games of America. The NCSG will ask the cities to prepare a final presentation for its board of directors and membership. The presentations will take place at the NCSG Annual Symposium to be held in Grand Rapids Oct. 13-15, 2014.
