Grand Rapids deputy city manager Eric DeLong received the 2013 Patriarche Colloquium Award for his decades-long service to Michigan communities. The award was created by the Michigan Local Government Managers Association in 1992 and recognizes members who have fostered representative democracy by enhancing the effectiveness of local-elected officials through innovative programs and excellence in character and professionalism. DeLong has made a conscious effort to assist new professionals in the field of public administration.

The Michigan Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing was awarded $24.9 million as part of the Trade Adjustment Act Community College Capacity Building Grant program. Grand Rapids Community College was granted $4.1 million of this award to upgrade manufacturing programs, purchase equipment to support educating today’s work force about the new role of advanced manufacturing in West Michigan, and grow existing programs during the next four years.


BioLife Plasma announced it has broken ground on a third West Michigan Plasma collection center at 6331 Kenowa Ave., Grandville. It will include a donor floor that will hold 72 beds, and will offer ample parking, free Wi-Fi and a supervised playroom. It will open with 35 employees.
