Change Ups: God’s Roamin’ Kitchen will focus on rural areas

Catholic Charities West Michigan’s God’s Kitchen Food & Pantry Programming has a new outreach: a food truck named God's Roamin' Kitchen. The truck’s focus is rural communities around Grand Rapids, providing free meals to individuals and families who need a hot meal and may not be able to come to Catholic Charities West Michigan and other food sites. Rural Michiganders may struggle with issues of food availability (lack of nearby grocery stores), accessibility and affordability even more than some of their city-dwelling counterparts, according to CCWM.

Ottawa County announced 55.63 acres of the Klein family farm in the northeastern corner of Ottawa County will be permanently used as agricultural land, upon granting an easement to the Ottawa County Farmland Preservation Program in July. According to a study by the American Farmland Trust in 2018, almost 31 million acres of farmland were lost across the United States from 1992-2012, the equivalent of all of the farmland in Iowa.

Long Road Distillers announced it will open a distillery tasting room at 118 Water St. in Boyne City on a date to be announced later. Longtime city of Grand Rapids administrator Mari Beth Jelks retired following 30 years of service. Ford International Airport recorded another month of record growth with a September that served 255,888 passengers — marking 15.74 percent growth year over year. The airport has seen growth in 62 of the last 69 months. In addition, phase two of the Gateway Transformation Project has begun with construction taking place at the airline ticket counters, baggage claim area and the front of house area.
