Change Ups: New technology service firm birthed

Two West Michigan technology and communications companies, Star Tek Communications and Logical Technologies, have merged to form the comprehensive technology service firm Star Logic Solutions. The two firms have collaborated in the past on many projects, such as United Way’s recent move to the renovated downtown human services campus. The new company specializes in telephone communications, computer networking, cabling, WiFi and cloud services, as well as support and repair services. Its office is at 3120 S. Getty, North Shores.

ACCOUNTING

Accountant Jennifer Lahey has joined Hungerford, Aldrin, Nichols & Carter PC CPAs & Consultants in the specialized accounting services department.

Plante Moran announced it is opening an office in Detroit in the Compuware building. The new office will house approximately 75 staff members and occupy 15,000 square feet on the third floor. 

ADVERTISING & MARKETING

Boileau Communications Management is the recipient of a national Silver ADDY Award, presented at the American Advertising Federation’s 2013 National ADDY Award Ceremony in Phoenix.

Bultema Lambert Communications announced it has launched an in-house creative department and has hired creative director Marc Scaturro to lead the department.

DVS announced the promotion of Charlie McGrath to creative director. He will be responsible for brand strategy and creative direction and will remain the interactive lead for DVS interact projects.

Murdoch Marketing was presented with Michigan West Coast Chamber’s IMPACT Award, recognizing its positive contribution to the community by upgrading the website for the Felt Mansion.

Sears Architects announced the addition of Todd Rutledge to its custom design team.

ARTS

Becca Guyette has joined the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology as teen program director. She previously worked for seven years at UICA as director of educational programs.

ASSOCIATIONS

The West Michigan Association of Health Underwriters has been recognized with Platinum Certification as part of the National Association of Health Underwriters’ Chapter Certification Program. The local chapter is one of six to achieve this recognition.

Consumers Credit Union announced a partnership with WWMT News Channel 3 to bring the seven- and three-day forecast weather updates through local digital community outdoor billboards in Kalamazoo and Holland and Consumers’ in-office video education monitors, in addition to WWMT’s newscasts, website and weather applications.

Lake Michigan Credit Union announced the opening of its new full-serve branch at 7580 E. Fulton, Ada. Newly hired Dale Burghgraef will serve as branch manager. LMCU also announced the additions of Becky Beld, branch manager of its Jenison branch, and Kim Smith, vice president of commercial lending, and the retirement of Vickie Smith, director of business development and community events.

Macatawa Bank announced the additions of Joel Brandt, commercial team leader for the Grand Rapids area; Andrew Schmidt, vice president and commercial banker at the Grand Rapids East Beltline office; and Steven Bosscher, assistant vice president, commercial banker, Holland corporate office.

Mandy Hales Chardoul has joined Legacy Trust as director of family office services.

BUSINESS SERVICES

Custer announced the additions of Betsy Ponstine and Nick Dubois to its interior architectural products division.

JetCo Solutions announced the addition of Joshua Moody, account manager and capture specialist. Moody will work with small companies to help them win government contract awards, capture activities with state and federal agencies, create strategic business to government sales plans and achieve government sales for clients.

CONSTRUCTION

Western Michigan University has selected TowerPinkster to develop the plans to transform East Hall into a home for alumni and development offices, and a facility that can be the focus of campus and community events and highlight the institution’s history.

EDUCATION

Grace Bible College announced Kim Pilieci has been named vice president for academics. She previously served as dean of developmental education and general education at Baker College of Muskegon.

The Michigan American Council on Education Women’s Network presented Grand Rapids Community College dean of arts Laurie Chesley with its Distinguished Leader Award during its state conference in East Lansing.

GRANTS

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced Western Michigan University is the recipient of a $387,483 grant to be used throughout late 2014 for research focused on the southeastern United States to investigate regional climate implications of organic aerosot formation. 

HEALTH

Adam London has been selected administrative health officer for the Kent County Health Department. He will manage daily operations. London previously was director of KCHD’s environmental health division for nearly three years, and recently served as interim health officer.

Allegan General Hospital recognized the following clinical staff members with its Nursing Excellence Award: Nursing Excellence Award, Ken Whitcomb; Licensed Practical Nurse Nursing Excellence Award, Heather Rhoades; and Nursing Excellence Award for Patient Care Assistant, Steven Kluck.

Priority Health announced it has improved access to health care for Medicaid members in Michigan through an expanded relationship with Metro Health. The new agreement provides Priority Health Medicaid members access to the Metro Health network of physicians, neighborhood outpatient centers and Metro Health Hospital in Wyoming. 

HUMAN SERVICES

The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan has moved to 3215 Eaglecrest Drive NE. All phone number and staff emails remain the same.

Clark Retirement Community announced the launch of its $7.5 million +Vibrant Community advancement campaign with three priorities: growing its benevolent care fund, expanding premier dementia services and transforming physical space and technology.

INSURANCE

Dave Tuit has joined Acrisure LLC as its chief financial officer.

MANUFACTURING

American Seating announced Jeffrey Wolber is its new vice president of architectural sales. Wolber will oversee sales for the firm’s education, entertainment, contract and government contract markets.

MEDIA

The Michigan Associated Press Media Editors announced the election of members for 2013-14: representing newspaper with a dally circulation of 15,001-50,000, Michael McCullough, executive editor and general manager, Battle Creek Enquirer; and representing newspapers with a daily circulation up to 15,000, Cheryl Welch, director of content and audience development, Grand Haven Tribune.
