Change Ups: Posh Petals opens in remodeled storefront


Elizabeth Schenk launched her business, Posh Petals, as a home business but recently opened a remodeled storefront at 2050 Plainfield Ave. NE. She considers her floral arrangements personalized and trendy. She also sells jewelry made in Spring Lake, tote bags, fragrant body products, and custom-order wood items such as wedding cake toppers. Posh Petals features a monthly wine and design class that teaches attendees how to make a take-home floral arrangement.


Bridgett Tubbs-Carlon, founder of the AppleTree Learning Centers and Gilden Woods Early Care and Preschool, has received Davenport University’s Hy Berkowitz Professional Excellence Award.

Grand Rapids Public Museum announced the honorees for its 6th Annual Jay and Betty Van Andel Legacy Awards: Jay and Betty Van Andel Lifetime Achievement Award, Jim Hackett; Dave and Carol Van Andel Leadership Award, J.C. Huizenga; and “The Casey” Award, Jacob Bourjaily. The awards will be given to the recipients at a gala event Nov. 13.

Aquinas College announced Marcie Hillary, executive director of Hospice of Michigan – West Michigan, and Bill Manns, president of Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, have been appointed to three-year terms on its board of trustees.

Nkechy Ezeh, Aquinas College associate professor of education and director of the early childhood education program, has been selected as a fellow for the inaugural class of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Leadership Network. Ezeh was chosen from more than 1,900 national candidates, which included nearly 500 Michigan applicants.

Calvin College philosophy professor James K.A. Smith has been named one of three recipients of the 2014 Fr. John B. Zwers Award by the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools board of trustees. The award recognizes individuals with a strong history of support for faith-based schools.


Erik R. Laug has earned the designation of executive financial services director at Morgan Stanley.

Brian Pribyl has joined Long Road Distillers as head distiller. He has nearly a decade of fermentation and distilling experience, including stints at Rogue Ales & Spirits and two distilleries in Tennessee.

New Holland Brewing Co. of Holland announced it signed a lease with Rockford Construction to launch a new brewpub, micro-distillery and restaurant slated to open in early 2016. The business will occupy space on the corner of Bridge Street and Broadway Avenue on Grand Rapids’ west side.
