Change Ups: Right Place director appointed to airport board


The Kent County Board of Commissioners appointed president/CEO of The Right Place Inc. Birgit Klohs as a citizen member of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport board. The board is comprised of three Kent County commissioners, three citizen members and one citizen member from a county other than Kent. Jim Saalfeld, chair of the committee that reviewed applications and recommended Klohs for the position, said her professional background in providing national and international customers with location and expansion assistance to West Michigan will add new energy to the board.


The Home Builders Association Foundation announced Olivia’s Gift Living Center in Belmont is the recipient of its first Community Builder Award, and Diephuis Builders Inc. is the recipient of the first Home Builders Care Award.


CSM Group has hired Jessica Roe, project coordinator. She will work with project directors and managers to assure contractual obligation and provide administrative oversight.

Re-New Builders LLC announced it has launched as an information resource for Grand Rapids area homeowners and businesses to find remodeling and construction information.

Wolverine Building Group has hired Todd Tarsi to work in its multi-family division as project superintendent, overseeing construction of apartments, student housing, affordable housing, senior housing, mixed use developments and historic renovations.


Cooper & Partners announced the addition of Cynthia Eiseler, director of client services. She is responsible for managing client relationships throughout Michigan in all program initiatives, including Michigan Corporate Challenge, WorkWell Network, consulting services, sponsorships and marketing partnerships.

Sharon Carson has joined Imperial Graphics, working with account manager Lisa Drew. Judy Hath retired from the company after working as an account coordinator for 12 years.


Ryne DeBoer has joined Twisthink as business development manager. He previously worked at The Morey Corp. in Woodridge, Ill., as advanced group sales manager.


Calvin College announced computer science department chair Joel Adams is one of six professors in the world to be recognized as a 2012 Distinguished Educator by the Association of Computing Machinery.

Cornerstone University announced the addition of Nate Clason, director of alumni relations. Clason is a graduate of CU who earned a master’s in divinity from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary and is completing a doctorate in higher education administration from MSU.


Northwestern Mutual in Grand Rapids announced it was recognized as a Best Place to Work in 2013 and received the Employees’ Choice Award by It ranks first in the insurance industry and 17th overall among service companies in Selling Power magazine’s 50 Best Companies to Sell For Now, and its internship program again was recognized as one of the Top 10 Internships in America.


Kalamazoo Community Foundation elected James Escamilla, president/CEO of Byce & Associates Inc., to its board of trustees, and reappointed Carolyn Williams, retired Kalamazoo County probate judge, and Frank Sardone, president/CEO of Bronson Healthcare Group.


Grand Rapids Community College’s Upward Bound program received a $20,000 funding grant from the AT&T Foundation Aspire program, which will be used to launch three “success clubs.”


The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization recognized Hospice of Michigan as a Level Four Partner in the We Honor Veterans Program, a collaboration of the Veterans Administration and NHPCO.

Shannon L. Gollnick has joined Life EMS Ambulance as director of central operations, which includes leading field activities throughout Kent and Ottawa counties. She will oversee daily operations and lead a field staff of nearly 100 employees.


Josh Harris has launched Josh Harris State Farm Agency, which includes extended hours and bilingual employees.


Miller Johnson announced the addition of Marcia Bennett Boyce as a member in its Grand Rapids office. She will continue her practice in bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights law and banking and financial institutions.


The American Trucking Association has elected Holland professional driver Herschel Evans to serve as America’s Road Team captain, the first Holland driver to be so selected. America’s Road Team is a national public outreach program of the ATA.

Columbian Logistics Network has hired Anne Schelling, director of business development.

Todd Chargo has joined Classic Transportation & Warehousing as a team leader. Chargo will be responsible for inventory management, shipping and receiving of domestic freight and customer service.


The Alliance for Environmental Sustainability announced the appointments of Brett Little, executive director, and Jamison Lenz, LEED for Home program manager.


Cathy Raevsky, Kent County administrative health officer, announced her resignation effective Feb. 15. Raevsky worked 11 years for the Kent County Health Department.


CBRE/Grand Rapids announced that Scott Kotrch has joined its retail team.

Elizabeth A. Slane has joined Hinman Co.’s property management department. She will manage a portfolio of nearly 1 million square feet of office space in Grand Rapids and Muskegon.


One Trick Pony Grill & Taproom has hired Drew Turnipseed as executive chef. He previously was executive chef at Brewery Vivant.


Fox Motors of Grand Rapids announced the opening of Fox Shine Car Wash at 3120 Broadmoor Ave. SE. It will provide car washes for $1 to Fox Motors customers with a fox head and Fox Motors license plate frame. Vehicles without Fox ID pay $6. A school will be selected once a month to use the car wash for fundraising.


C/D/H announced the addition of consultant Michael Balatzis, who will help manage the Microsoft System Center, Lync and Exchange projects for its infrastructure practice.


The Rapid announced its Rapids Operations Center has met standards for LEED Gold certification. Key features that contributed include bus wash water reclamation that saves an annual average of 9 million gallons of water, a 40,000-square-foot green roof and increased daylight/natural light and natural ventilation.
