Change Ups: WMU Cooley Law School taps McGrath as president, dean

James McGrath, professor of law and associate dean for academic support and bar services at Texas A&M University School of Law, was selected as WMU Cooley Law School’s next president and dean. McGrath becomes the third president and sixth dean since the law school’s founding in 1972. He replaces Don LeDuc, who retired after 16 years serving as president and dean. Throughout his career, McGrath has spoken at law schools around the country about teaching techniques and continues to focus his advocacy on issues facing education, health care and LGBTQ rights.

Portage-based Air Zoo announced it received a $57,000 grant from the Margaret Dunning Foundation to support the renovation of its existing classroom spaces. The grant matches the investment already committed by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs in September 2018, supporting a complete $114,000 renovation of the Air Zoo’s existing classroom spaces. Renovations will enable the Air Zoo to provide an immersive, hands-on space for the more than 90 science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics educational initiatives.

The Junior League of Grand Rapids presented a $50,000 check to the city of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department for upgrades to the Ted Rasberry Field, due to the large population of children and the lack of safe play facilities in the immediate area. The play space will feature state-of-the-art playground equipment designed to inspire movement, fitness and interaction, and will be just beyond the outfield fence of Rasberry Field.

Walker-based Custom Profile, an international producer of plastic extrusion products, announced it partnered with Mosaic Capital Partners to purchase all of the company’s equity from Blackford Capital. The transaction allows Custom Profile to transition to a 100% employee-owned company through an employee stock ownership plan.
