A college is spending $1.6 million on 4.8 acres in the area for parking.
The Grand Valley State University Board of Trustees approved yesterday the Walker real estate deal.
The deal joins three parcels at Lake Michigan Drive and Kinney Avenue.
One of the three parcels will be donated by the current owner.
The three parcels will provide more than 400 parking spaces along the proposed Laker Line and a current bus line.
GVSU said 20,000 square feet of retail space in the deal will remain operational and "part of the City of Walker's developing business district."
