The local office of a national accounting firm has a new leader.

New York-based KPMG LLP, a U.S. audit, tax and advisory firm, said last month it appointed Betsy Meter as office managing partner for its Grand Rapids and Detroit offices.

Meter replaced Heather Paquette, who took on a new role within the firm.

Rob Arning, KPMG vice chair of market development, said he believes Meter will be successful in her position.

“Betsy is an outstanding professional, great leader and mentor and one of the best at delivering quality client service,” Arning said. “I also know she’ll ensure that KPMG’s Detroit and Grand Rapids offices will continue to be a beacon for talented business professionals to advance their careers.”

Meter said she anticipates helping the firm grow.

“I’m really looking forward to leading a group of very dedicated KPMG professionals in Detroit and Grand Rapids, as we grow our business by helping clients navigate the challenges of disruption, new technology and a dynamic legislative and regulatory landscape,” Meter said.

Responsibilities

Meter will oversee the strategic direction and growth of the offices, as well as ensure KPMG Grand Rapids and Detroit provide excellent work environments for all 393 professionals employed there.

Meter’s background

Meter joined KPMG in 1982 and made partner in 1996.

During her 35-year audit career, she has advised clients on due diligence, SEC reporting, revenue recognition and leasing standards. She serves a wide range of multi-national manufacturing clients.

She is immediate past chair of the Michigan CPA Society, or MICPA, currently chairs the MICPA nominating committee and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs Council.

Meter also serves on the board and audit committee of Oakland Family Services in Pontiac and is a member of the finance committees for Brother Rice High School and St. Regis Church in Bloomfield Hills.

She has received numerous awards, including the MICPA Experienced Women Leader award and Crain’s Detroit Business’ 40 Under 40 award.

She is a CPA and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Michigan State University.
