An advertising organization is bringing in one of the country’s top creative directors tomorrow to talk about his new book.

AdFed West Michigan will host Jason Sperling on Thursday in Grand Rapids from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at CityFlatsHotel, at 83 Monroe Center St. NW. People can buy tickets online.

Sperling serves as executive creative director at RPA, a full-service advertising agency in Los Angeles.

His credits include leading Honda’s Cannes-winning “Project Drive-In,” an effort to save the American drive-in, and the “Matthew’s Day Off” 2012 Super Bowl spot, which was called one of the all-time best Super Bowl spots by the NY Post and Entertainment Weekly.

Before joining RPA, Sperling was creative director at TBWA\Media Arts Lab, where he helped create Apple’s iconic “Mac vs. PC” campaign, which was declared “Campaign of the Decade” by Adweek.

Instagram book

Sperling is coming to Grand Rapids to talk about his newly released book, “Look at Me When I'm Talking to You.”

The book was released exclusively on Instagram with the tag #lookatmebook.

In it, Sperling explores how advertisers can create new rules and better break through to attract elusive, cynical, apathetic and over-stimulated customers back to brands.

ADDY judge

Sperling is also serving as a judge for this year’s West Michigan American Advertising Awards, which is the first step in a three-tier national competition.

Local advertising professionals, agencies and in-house creative departments submitted work for the competition earlier this month.

The local ADDY Awards will be handed out on Feb. 25 at UICA.
