A maker of aerospace parts is expanding its operation in Grand Rapids.

Jedco will invest $9 million in new machinery and equipment, creating 39 new jobs over the next three years, according to The Right Place yesterday.

Jedco is a fabricator of gas turbine engine and other aerospace components produced from high-strength and high-temperature alloys with a specialized focus on engineered flaps, seals, combustor cans and shields.

The company employs 167 employees at its 111,000-square-foot facility at 1615 Broadway Ave. NW

With increased sales expected over the next several years, Jedco needs to expand its operations to increase production and overall capacity.

“We are excited about this new growth chapter in Jedco’s history,” said Dan Szymanski, CEO and chairman of the board, Jedco. “The Right Place, the MEDC and the City of Grand Rapids provided the support and business case we needed to continue growing here in the city.”

Jedco’s has number “core” manufacturing capabilities: welding; thermal forming; machining; mechanical forming and rolling; and chemical cleaning and etching. The company has NADCAP certifications in several manufacturing processes.

The MEDC is supporting the project with the approval of a $215,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.

The company made the decision with support from The Right Place, a Grand Rapids-based economic development agency.
