An airline is adding a new seasonal non-stop destination from Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

American Airlines will offer daily non-stop flights from Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR) to Phoenix-Sky Harbor International (PHX), beginning Jan. 6, 2019 through March, Ford airport said last week.

The flights will be via an Airbus A319 family aircraft.

Frontier Airlines also said last month it will offer seasonal flights on the same route, beginning Dec. 19.

This is the seventh non-stop flight served by American Airlines at Ford airport.

The airline also flies to six other airports: Chicago-O’Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, Charlotte, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Miami, beginning in December 2018.

In 2013, the only non-stop flights the airline offered from Grand Rapids were to Dallas and Chicago.

“American Airlines continues to see the overall growth we’ve had at the Ford Airport, which is why this Phoenix flight fits into our seasonal winter schedule, but American has also been a big reason we have had such success and growth,” said Jim Gill, president and CEO, Ford airport.

Booking will be available on American Airlines’ website starting today.

American Airlines will determine if it will continue offering the route in 2020 based on the success of the route in 2019.
