A major shoe sale that will donate thousands of dollars back into the community is on tap for today.
Wolverine Worldwide is working with Heart of West Michigan United Way to host its sixth annual Super Mega Tent Sale on Thursday, Aug. 27. The event, which will offer more than 10,000 pairs of shoes and savings of up to 80 percent off retail prices, features brands like Bates, Cat Footwear, Chaco, Cushe, Harley-Davidson, Hush Puppies, Hytest, Keds, Merrell, Patagonia, Saucony, Sebago, Sperry Top-Sider, Stride Rite and Wolverine. Some men and women’s clothing also will be available.
The tent sale will run from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at 9343 Courtland Drive NE, Rockford.
About 4,000 people attended last year’s event, said Maribeth Groen, public relations and event coordinator for Heart of West Michigan United Way. Currently, more than 9,000 people have clicked “attending” on the event’s Facebook page.
“It’s completely organized by Wolverine and 100 percent of the profits go to United Way. I believe they’re expecting to raise about $300,000,” she said.
“That (money) goes into our community investment fund, (through which) we fund close to 60 agencies with their basic needs and impact strategy.”
