Construction will start soon on land that once was a golf course in Cascade Township.

Grand Rapids-based LaCati Group will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 12 at noon for a new apartment development that will go up on the former Centennial Country Club grounds.
The development will offer 240 rental units and be called The Ridges of Cascade, at 3361 Charlevoix Dr. SE.
“It will be a one-of-a-kind project in West Michigan, with attached garages, private entrances and first-class amenities in the Forest Hills school district," said Chad Cassiday, president of LaCati Group. "It is a great project in an unbelievable location.”
LaCati Group is a residential development and management company, formerly known as Heritage Management.
“LaCati is known for building quality high-end residential homes," added Cassiday. "We are bringing that same quality level to the multi-family market."
Cassiday said the development "fills a large void in the market that will appeal to a wide range of people."
"Plus, it will be developed, owned and managed by West Michigan people," he said. "We are excited to see this project finally come to fruition."
Grand Rapids-based CD Barnes Construction will direct and manage the construction, which will get underway after Thursday’s groundbreaking event.
The builder is also partnering with LaCati Group on the development.
“These apartments will offer quality living that is second to none in an intimate, serene community setting,” said Todd Oosting, CD Barnes Construction executive vice president.
The Ridges of Cascade will be built on land Meadowood Development Corporation had owned for the last 20 years, said Chris Beckering, a Meadowood spokesman.
Meadowood sold a portion of land in the Centennial Country Club Redevelopment Plan to the entity developing The Ridges of Cascade in November, Beckering said.
The 85-acre development planned at the former country club site, Centennial Park, includes a combination of apartments and single-family homes.
Meadowood also gifted or otherwise conveyed approximately 35 acres in the plan to neighboring condo associations and property owners as preserved open space, Beckering said.
“I believe the new plan for Centennial Park will preserve the character and integrity of the neighborhood in a fashion that is consistent with the intent and spirit of the (township’s) master plan," Beckering said last summer. "Centennial Park can and should continue to be a beautiful area with beautifully preserved open space and quality housing options."
The Cascade Township Board of Trustees approved Meadowood’s development plan in July.
LaCati Group, doing business as Heritage Management, recently sold a portfolio of eight apartment buildings with 131 rental units in and around downtown Grand Rapids to Maplegrove Property for $10.3 million.
David Emdin, a Maplegrove owner, recently told the Business Journal that all the units were leased and all eight structures were in good condition.
“We have spent years owning and managing multi-family assets, understanding the market needs and building high-quality residential projects,” Cassiday said.
