Several West Michigan individuals and firms have won awards from a statewide architecture association.
The American Institute of Architects Michigan held its annual Honor Awards Celebration at The Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn last week and handed out awards to 15 Michigan firms for their buildings and to 10 individuals.
The awards were juried by a group from Boston and chaired by Glen LeRoy.
The Michigan chapter is headquartered in Midtown Detroit and uses the awards as a way to raise public awareness of the state’s architectural excellence.
Progressive AE’s ArtPrize entry, Alone | Among, was one of the winners in the Low Budget/Small Project category.
The judges said, "This ingenious modular construct can be reconfigured for a variety of uses serving the young and young at heart.”
The two winners of the Young Architect Award, Thom Danckaert and Megan Feenstra Wall, call Grand Rapids home, and the Business Journal profiled the pair last month.
Feenstra Wall works at Grand Rapids-based Mathison | Mathison, and Danckaert works at Progressive AE.
Brian Craig, director of the Master of Architecture program at Kendall College of Art and Design, won the President’s Award.
Other firms from the region also brought home awards.
