An association has handed out awards for the best work by contractors in the region over the past year.

At the 30th-annual Excellence in Construction Awards this week at New Vintage Place in Grand Rapids, the Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter, or ABC/WMC, presented dozens of awards, including the Safety Award of Excellence and Craft Professional of the Year.

Safety winners

Sixteen companies vied for the Safety Award of Excellence, which was awarded in two categories.

Holland-based Elzinga & Volkers won the award for general contractors, and Grand Rapids-based Feyen Zylstra won the award for trade contractors.

Craft winner

The awards ceremony was also highlighted by the Craft Professional of the Year award.
