A conference on leadership for women connected to the health care industry is taking place downtown next week.

The second-annual Women in Healthcare Leadership conference takes place from 3:30-7 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the Eberhard Center in Grand Rapids, at 301 Fulton W.

Hosted by the Western Michigan Healthcare Financial Management Association, the event is expected to gather around 150 female leaders and aspiring leaders who are connected to the health care industry directly or indirectly.

The theme of this year’s event is “Empower & Educate.”

“Our goal with this year was to build upon our inaugural event, which was focused on inspiring women,” said Nancy Smith of Trinity Health and the association’s event committee chair. “We chose a 2018 theme that would allow us to focus on both personal and professional growth topics, ‘Empower & Educate’ accomplishes that.”

Keynote speakers include Jane Gietzen of Spectrum Health and Becky Anderson, a financial advisor with Edward Jones.

The two women will share their stories and lead attendees through hands-on activities.

Gietzen has worked for Spectrum Health for almost 20 years as the director of information services and hospitality operations. She is also a certified executive coach. Gietzen has been named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan by the Business Journal for her community service efforts.

Anderson has held national and regional positions at Edward Jones and was listed among the “Top 100 Women Advisors” by Barrons. Heavily involved in community service, Anderson was also named one of the 50 Most Influential Women in West Michigan by the Business Journal. She has worked with ArtPrize, John Ball Zoo and the Holland Home Foundation.

The cost for the event, including refreshments, is $50 for non-members, $40 for members and $25 for students.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Women's Resource Center.
