The first brewery in a southeast Grand Rapids neighborhood is opening its doors.

Brass Ring Brewing in Alger Heights, at 2404 Eastern Ave. SE, will have its grand-opening celebration today at 4 p.m.

The celebration will feature seven beers on tap, plus appetizers, soups, sandwiches and the brewery’s charcuterie boards.

Draft beers will come in 16-ounce pints, tasters or a five-taster flight.

The grand opening’s tap list features various brews:

Smash Võj, single malt with Vojdivina hops
Golden Ticket, golden ale with glacier and cascade hops
Inaugural Ale, Brass Ring’s first batch with carmel and Munich malt
Up the “RA,” Irish red ale
Liquid Spirit, porter with carmel and English hops
Rock Steady, brown ale with English hops
Alpha Roma, IPA with carmel and Ashburn

The Business Journal reported last November that owner Christopher Gibbons sought a special land-use permit for the brewery’s property the brewery. The 2,165-square-foot building was designed to have a 94-customer capacity.

Gibbons said his brewery would complement the Alger Heights neighborhood, explaining, “It is consistent with the Master Plan and will be a neighborhood hub that will attract local residents of Alger Heights and Garfield Park.”

Gibbons is also an attorney with the Dunn/Gibbons law firm in downtown Grand Rapids.
