A local attorney has been honored for his legal assistance to a major institution downtown.
Jeffrey Battershall, a partner at Grand Rapids-based Warner Norcross + Judd, won the Carol Van Andel Angel of Excellence Award from the Van Andel Institute, or VAI, according to the firm last month.
Battershall was recognized for being a partner “in advocacy and philanthropic support for VAI,” which is an independent biomedical research and science education nonprofit.
“Van Andel Institute is fortunate to have very special individuals and organizations who go above and beyond to support our work,” Carol Van Andel said.
“We are thankful for these angels and their selfless gifts and are honored to place a spotlight on their efforts to educate, advocate and support the institute’s goal of transforming lives through discovery.”
Battershall has been involved with VAI since 2005. He has represented the institute in a range of legal matters, such as contracts, research collaboration agreements, intellectual property licensing, business transactions and more.
He has also served as interim general counsel and secretary to the VAI Board of Trustees for two years.
At Warner, Battershall co-chairs the health law practice. He focuses his practice on health institutions, publicly traded companies and privately owned companies and on various legal areas, including contracts, general corporate law, transactions and more.
He serves on the advisory council for Albion College’s Gerald R. Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service and the board of Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank.
He holds an A.B. from Albion College and a J.D. from Harvard University.
