A grilled cheese and tomato soup restaurant in the area has closed and is liquidating its assets.
The Grandville franchise of Cincinnati, Ohio-based Tom + Chee, which opened at 3060 44th St. SW in 2015, recently closed.
Byron Center-based Orbitbid.com will auction its assets online on Jan. 29 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Potential bidders can stop by the restaurant for a preview of the sale items on Jan. 28 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and also on Jan. 29 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. during bidding.
The auction will feature a variety of restaurant items: Imperial combination range/griddles; fryers, stainless-steel sinks; Globe slicers; refrigerated prep tables/cabinets; ice makers; stainless prep tables; assorted kitchen tools and support equipment; a Fire King digital safe; tables; chairs; patio furniture; point-of-sale systems; and more.
Dave VanEe, operations manager at Orbitbid.com, said his company also conducted an auction for a Detroit-area Tom + Chee when it closed about six months ago.
Tom + Chee did not immediately respond to requests for information about other possible franchise closures.

Founded in 2009 by Corey Ward, Jenny Rachford, and Trew Quackenbush and Jennifer Quackenbush, Tom + Chee is known for serving grilled cheese sandwich combinations, fresh salads, tomato soups, daily soups and seasonal favorites, such as gazpacho and blue cheese chili.
The company first came to fame in 2012 when its signature creation, the Grilled Cheese Donut, was named one of seven best sandwiches by the “Today Show” and was featured on “The Chew,” “Man vs Food Nation” and “Amazing Eats.”
In 2013, Tom + Chee appeared on “Shark Tank,” and investor Barbara Corcoran made a deal with Tom + Chee’s owners to help expand and franchise the business.
