An auto supplier in the region has acquired a local maker of interior components to enhance its portfolio.

Motus Integrated Technologies in Holland said this week that its acquisition of Leon Automotive Interiors in Grand Rapids supports its growth strategy and diversifies and expands its product lines, customer base and technical capabilities.

The move also gives Motus a "highly complementary and strategic set" of manufacturing facilities in Mexico and Michigan.

Leon will continue to do business as a stand-alone company and operate as a subsidiary of Motus.

It will benefit from Motus’ operating expertise, launch capabilities and complementary manufacturing footprint.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Motus Integrated Technologies was formed in 2014 by a group of automotive industry executives and Atlas Holdings.

The company produces headliners, sun visors and overhead systems from four plants: Holland; Ramos Arizpe, Mexico; Uberherrn, Germany; and Creutzwald, France.

Motus also has production capabilities in Cottondale, Ala.

Since the company’s formation, it has focused on strategic growth opportunities.

“Through the acquisition of Leon, we are enhancing our already experienced and dedicated team, and we are expanding our product portfolio with the addition of key, high-quality interior components and production capabilities,” said Shannon White, president and CEO, Motus Integrated Technologies. “This acquisition is consistent with our growth strategy.”

Leon Automotive Interiors is a supplier of “highly engineered” decorative soft-trim interior components: door and console armrests; instrument panel trim; interior handles; and more.

In 2014, the company supplied armrests to more than 50 vehicle nameplates, producing "the dominant share" of door and console armrests for the North American market.

Leon operates a sales and engineering office in Livonia and four plants: Grand Rapids; Ramos Arizpe, Arteaga and Saltillo, Mexico.
