The latest version of a car-to-home automation system is now available on the aftermarket.
Zeeland-based Gentex (Nasdaq: GNTX) recently began shipping the latest version of its HomeLink car-to-home automation system to VOXX Electronics — a subsidiary of Hauppauge, New York-based Voxx International — for sale in the automotive aftermarket, according to Gentex yesterday.
It can now be purchased through local Voxx distributors, sales representatives or regional sales managers.
Gentex has had an aftermarket business going back around 15 years through which it sells automatic-dimming rear view mirrors of many kinds through distributor partners VOXX and MITO Corporation, according to Craig Piersma, director of marketing and corporate communications, Gentex.
This is the first time the newest version of the HomeLink car-to-home automation system is available in the aftermarket, he said.
How the system works
The HomeLink car-to-home automation system consists of a Gentex Bluetooth-enabled automatic-dimming mirror with three integrated buttons that can be programmed to operate a myriad of devices via two transmission modes: radio frequency and cloud-based.
“HomeLink’s dual transmission makes it the industry standard for comprehensive and reliable vehicle-to-home automation,” said Neil Boehm, CTO, Gentex. “Plus, we’re continually working to ensure that HomeLink is compatible with the latest smart-home devices.”
The radio frequency mode activates “entry-critical” appliances, such as garage doors and security gates, and the cloud-based wireless transmission mode operates home lighting, thermostats, smart outlets, security systems and other IoT devices.
Cloud-based device operation happens through HomeLink Connect, Gentex’s new home automation app that users can configure to control their home automation devices.
Once configured, the user’s smartphone app pairs with the HomeLink buttons in the mirror via Bluetooth, allowing users to activate their devices without touching their phones.
The new Bluetooth-enabled HomeLink mirror has a suggested retail price of $299.99 through VOXX.
The compatible HomeLink Connect app is available for iOS and Android devices by searching HomeLink Connect in the App Store and Google Play.
First-year app use is free, with an annual renewal rate of $1.99.
