A maker of aircraft engine parts in the region is planning to expand into a third location and create 100 jobs in the process.

Muskegon-based Johnson Technology has reached capacity at its two facilities in Muskegon County, and it plans to lease a warehouse adjacent to its Norton Shores facility, which is at 6060 Norton Center Dr., to serve as a third manufacturing site, according to the Michigan Economic Development Corp., or MEDC, today.

The new facility will accommodate anticipated growth of the company’s existing and new engine programs. The company supplies parts for military and commercial aircraft.

Johnson Technology will invest $14.5 million in the expansion.

MEDC said Johnson Technology chose Muskegon County for expansion over competing sites in Kentucky, Ohio, South Carolina and Alabama.

Incentives

The company was awarded an $800,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the expansion.

“The MEDC made the process simple and streamlined from start to finish and helped us get approval to put the work and the jobs in Muskegon,” said Kevin Prindable, plant leader, Johnson Technology.

The City of Norton Shores supported the project in the form of a property tax abatement.

Johnson Technology

Johnson Technology became a subsidiary of GE Aviation after being acquired in 1997.

The company has 694 employees.
