A Minnesota ax-throwing chain is having a grand opening celebration for its first West Michigan location.
FlannelJax’s, the most recent addition to Grand Rapids’ burgeoning ax-throwing craze, will hold its grand opening celebration from 4-7 p.m. Feb. 19.
Under the guidance and instruction of a certified staff of lumberjacks and lumberjills, attendees can take part in a variety of activities, including throwing axes in the 13-foot range, competitive crosscut sawing and Thump the Stump, which is a race to hammer a nail into a stump using a hatchet.
Representatives from the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce will participate in the event with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss.
"Since we opened in November, FlannelJax’s has received a great response from Grand Rapids residents who have enjoyed our exciting lumberjack activities," said Terry Stewart, FlannelJax’s vice president of franchise services and operations.
FlannelJax’s officially opened its first Grand Rapids location on Nov. 23 at 601 Lake Michigan Drive NW. The Minnesota-based chain features lumberjack-based competition in a safe, structured environment.
Grand Rapids is the third FlannelJax’s location in the country. The first opened in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2018 and the second opened in Madison, Wisconsin, in September 2019. FlannelJax’s plans to add new units in Seattle, Washington, and Fort Collins, Colorado, later this year.
FlannelJax’s is owned by Metal Supermarkets, the "world’s largest supplier" of small-quantity metals. Metal Supermarkets has more than 30 years of franchise experience and 92 locations across the U.S., Canada and the U.K.
