A group of bands will help celebrate and honor local musicians tonight at one of Grand Rapids’ largest music venues.

Jammies

The 16th-annual WYCE Jammie Awards will be held at The Intersection Lounge and The Stache.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event is free for all ages.

The show will be a mix of awards and live music and is presented by Bell’s Brewery.

WYCE 88.1 FM is a community radio station, which plays an eclectic mix of local and international music, 24 hours a day, and streams around the world.

Many awards will be handed out based on the voting of WYCE’s more than 70 volunteer programmers, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Album by a New Artist.

“With the Jammies, not only do we recognize and award the best artists in area music, but we also give people a chance to experience that music first hand, for free, with all ages welcome,” said Matt Jarrells, program director, WYCE. “Jammies continues to grow, and I think this year’s show will be the best ever.”

Live music

Headlining the show will be The Verve Pipe and Mustard Plug. The two bands will also be awarded with WYCE Legacy Awards for their lasting contributions to the West Michigan music scene.

A number of bands will take the stage during the night: AB, Ghost Heart, May Erlewine, Billy Strings & Don Julin, The Accidentals, The Concussions, Valentiger, Maraj, The Muteflutes, Alexis, Vox Vidorra, Hannah Rose Graves, Max Lockwood, Dante Cope, Roosevelt Diggs and more.

Aftershow

For the first time in its history, the Jammies will be followed by an official after party. The Jammies After Party will also be held at The Intersection and will go on until the “small hours.”

Seth Bernard will host the event and be joined on stage by Lindsay Lou & The Flatbelly’s, Mark Lavengood and more performers from the Jammies.
