ChoiceOne Bank appoints three loan officers

A Sparta-based bank is expanding its commercial and mortgage lending teams in southeast and West Michigan.

ChoiceOne Bank said Monday, June 13, it appointed William “Bill” Bruinsma as vice president commercial loan officer, Brandon Hayes as vice president commercial loan officer and Bonnie Potter as mortgage loan officer.

“We are pleased to welcome Bill, Brandon and Bonnie to our loan teams,” said ChoiceOne CEO Kelly Potes. “These three loan officers have extensive experience in their fields and will play a significant role in our continued growth in West and southeast Michigan.

“Loan development, both personal and business, are important aspects of our growth as we build relationships and expand our ChoiceOne Bank footprint. … We continue to broaden our levels of service and expertise to fulfill our mission to provide superior service, quality advice and show our utmost respect to everyone we meet.”

Bruinsma joins ChoiceOne with over 30 years in commercial banking. In his most recent position as senior first vice president, middle market banking at Huntington Bank, Bruinsma was responsible for a large commercial loan portfolio while advising clients about treasury management, capital markets, retirement plans, wealth management and private banking. He is based at the Grand Rapids metro loan office at 2221 Health Drive SW, Suite 1200, in Wyoming.

He holds a Master of Business Administration degree in finance and a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from the University of Michigan. He serves on the boards of the Wedgwood Christian Services Foundation and the Kent County Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Hayes joins ChoiceOne with seven years in the banking industry, including business banking, mortgages and most recently as a commercial loan officer at Horizon Bank. Hayes will set up office in the newly established loan production office in Oakland County that is scheduled to open later this summer.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University and is an active member in the Troy Chamber of Commerce and the Detroit Industrial Network Group Chapter.

Potter joins ChoiceOne Bank with over 20 years of experience as a mortgage loan officer for several regional banks in West Michigan, including Huntington, Independent and Chemical banks. She will work out of ChoiceOne’s Grand Rapids office at 330 Market Ave. SW.

She has an MBA degree from Aquinas College and a BBA degree from Davenport University. She is the secretary and treasurer for SECOM Resource Center; a volunteer tax preparer with the Internal Revenue Services’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA Tax); and is involved with Habitat for Humanity, ICCF Community Homes, New Development Corporation, LINC UP and Dwelling Place of Grand Rapids.
