An 8-year-old brewery in East Hills will close its doors for good next month.

Jeff DeLongchamp, owner of ELK Brewing, which was founded in 2014 by Eric and Lisa Karns at 700 Wealthy St. SE in Grand Rapids’ East Hills neighborhood, said in a Facebook post on Monday he plans to close the brewery and taproom on Sunday, May 15.

DeLongchamp — who took over majority ownership of the brewery in 2019 — will host a closing party on Saturday, May 14, to thank the community and customers.

“It is with great regret and sadness that we announce the permanent closure of ELK Brewing on Wealthy Street,” DeLongchamp said in the post. “…Our herd could not have been more blessed to be a part of such a wonderful city, our patrons mean the world to us, and we are devastated that, under the circumstances, we will no longer be able to serve our community delicious brews.”

DeLongchamp cited “these unprecedented times” in his announcement, saying the business has been “fortunate for the time we have had with our amazing bartenders, friends and loyal customers.”

“ELK Brewing will be remembered for the wonderful times and great beers we produced — again, thank you very much for your support, and we look forward to your last few visits into the taproom,” he said.
