Madcap Coffee closes downtown café

A local coffee roaster announced it permanently closed its Downtown Market café.

In a post on Facebook, the Grand Rapids-based coffee roaster said it chose to close the café because of COVID-19 and “other external factors.”

“We are so incredibly thankful for the many relationships we developed over the last three years, with our team, customers, and other Market tenants,” the post read. “We’ve learned a lot about service and experience in our time there, and have worked hard to apply these lessons to other parts of our business.”

Madcap did not immediately respond to requests for an interview.

Madcap opened the Downtown Market location in 2016, according to an earlier Business Journal report. The café featured a “modern circular bar and bright, contemporary and almost futuristic vibes.”

Madcap opened its first café in 2008 at 98 Monroe Center NW in downtown Grand Rapids, which is still open for business.

The company also operates a third location attached to its roasting facility, at 1041 E. Fulton St., which it opened in 2017.
