A statewide bioscience association is producing its annual conference in the region.

MichBio will host its Conference & Expo on Jan. 18 at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in downtown Kalamazoo.

Hundreds of people — including industry researchers, manufacturers, executives and service providers — are expected to attend “the largest gathering of bioscience industry professionals in the state,” according to MichBio.

The theme for this year’s expo is “Connecting Technology, Health & Well-Being” and features Klick Health SVP Alec Melkonian as keynote speaker. Melkonian will present on the top 10 trends in digital health and what the digital health trend means for early to mid-stage bioscience companies.

This marks the first year the conference is being held in one day, with a morning general session featuring discussions on the evolving health care delivery model, integrating technology into health care and expectations of innovators developing new products. The afternoon session will focus on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and bio-industry growth in Michigan and globally.

“We always strive to feature not only conversations about today’s hot topics, but also tomorrow’s opportunities, all brought by the highest caliber of speakers, many of which are prominent leaders in their respective fields,” said Stephen Rapundalo, president and CEO, MichBio.

MichBio is also hosting a college program for students and faculty, featuring industry professionals who will discuss the state of the bio-industry in Michigan, employment opportunities and skill-set requirements.

The event will also feature an Innovation Exhibitor Hall where companies can showcase their products and services. Exhibitors include Biotechnology Innovation Organization, NSF International, PharmOptima and more.

The agenda also includes more than four hours of networking opportunities, including an evening reception featuring a strolling dinner and live entertainment.

MichBio’s Good to Great, Innovator of the Year and Legislator of the Year award recipients will also be announced at the conference.

The MichBio Expo & Conference will begin with an invitation-only leadership breakfast at 7:30 a.m., with an open networking continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m.

Those interested in attending the event can register online.

The cost is $199 for MichBio members and $229 for non-members.

A booth in the Innovation Exhibit Hall is $899 for MichBio members and $1,399 for non-members.
