Muggles are invited to bookstores in town this weekend for J.K. Rowling’s latest “Harry Potter” release and a birthday party.

Barnes & Noble and Schuler Books will host midnight release parties for J.K. Rowling’s new “Harry Potter” script: “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

The parties are also meant to celebrate Harry Potter’s birthday on Sunday.

Barnes & Noble

The Barnes & Noble at Woodland Mall in Kentwood, at 3195 28th St. SE, will host a party on Saturday, beginning at 8 p.m., when the sorting hat begins its placements leading up to the midnight release.

Check-in begins at 7 p.m., and guests can receive a bracelet to ensure a place in line for the script. However, Barnes & Noble does expect to have plenty of copies available.

Giveaways and actives are planned for the party, and a percentage of sales from the night will go to the Children’s Reading Corner at the Kent County Department of Health and Human Services.

Prizes for the night include two sets of seven “Harry Potter” limited-edition cover prints, tickets to the Grand Rapids Symphony's “Harry Potter in Concert” and a variety of Hogwarts-branded items.

Activities include a horcrux scavenger hunt, trivia, wand making, quidditch matches and a Have You Seen This Wizard? photo booth.

Muggles are encouraged to dress up in wizard clothing, employees will wear costumes and “special Hogwarts guests” will be on hand.

Schuler Books

Starting at 9 p.m. on Saturday, Schuler Books in Grand Rapids, at 2660 28th St. SE, will host its party, which will run up to a midnight release.

Guests are encouraged to join the Ministry of Magic and will be sorted to the store’s various departments when they receive a Ministry badge.

The event will include animals and experts from John Ball Zoo and a strolling magician, Magic Bob.

Music by the Super Guitar Bros and members of the Grand Rapids Symphony will also be on hand during the night. Tickets for the symphony’s performance of the musical score “Live with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will also be released and on sale.

Thirty percent of the event’s proceeds will go to Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and the Pediatric Oncology Resource Team.
