Breweries medal at international competition

Several West Michigan breweries have won awards at an international competition in the Los Angeles area.

Entries in the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition in Pomona, California came from 29 states and countries, including Croatia, Vietnam and Canada. Beers were tasted by a 100-member panel of certified beer judges.

Muskegon’s Pigeon Hill won a gold medal for Walter Gets Buzzed in the Coffee Beer category.

Portage-based Latitude 42 won a silver medal for BeachcruiserWheat, an American-style beer, as well as a bronze medal in Chili Beer for its El Diablo.

Latitude 42 also won a gold medal for Aged Beer with its Barley Wine 2014. The brewery’s Lil’ Sunshine Golden Ale won bronze in the English-style Summer Ale and Powerline Porter won silver in the Robust Porter category.

Cedar Springs Brewing Company's Küsterer Heller Weissbier won a gold medal for South German-style Hefeweizen, while the brewery’s Küsterer Weizenbock also won gold for German-style Wheat Ale.

Dexter-based Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales won a silver medal in the Wood- and Barrel-aged Sour Beer with its Apocolocynposis, and its sister company North Peak Brewing won a silver medal for its Diabolical in English-style IPA.

Lansing-based Ellison Brewery earned honorable mention in German-style Kolsch for its Kaylan’s Kolsch.
