A local brewery has partnered with a brewer to debut a new beer in Philadelphia — before bringing it back home.

Brewery Vivant in Grand Rapids sent brewers out to Philadelphia for a collaboration brew — Bon Vivant, a saison-style ale — with Victory Brewing Co. in Downington, Pa.

Brewery Vivant will soon send representatives back out to Philadelphia to take part in the annual Brewer’s Plate event on March 8, when it will debut the beer.

“The brewery is always promoting what we call living the ‘Bon Vivant’ — the good life, relishing life through good beer and good food and celebrating that proper pairing can elevate the enjoyment of both,” said Jason Spaulding, president, Brewery Vivant. “This collaboration is a result of a vision that we share with Victory.”

The beer is a saison-style ale with a medium-to-light body and spice notes from the use of barley, wheat, rye and Belgian yeast.

After the beer debuts at Brewer’s Plate, Bon Vivant will come back to Michigan with Brewery Vivant.

Brewery Vivant and Victory Brewing will then hold culinary-driven events in Michigan with the beer.

Brewer’s Plate

Brewer’s Plate offers exclusive samplings of food and drinks and serves as a fundraiser for Fair Food, a nonprofit that promotes local, sustainable and humane food in the Delaware Valley region.

Victory Brewing President Bill Covaleski is the founder and a main sponsor of Brewer’s Plate and felt sharing Brewery Vivant’s brews was a natural fit for the event.

“Each year, we recognize the opportunity we have to showcase food producers who embrace sustainable practices,” Covaleski said. “Brewery Vivant exemplifies a high-integrity producer of great flavors.”

Several other Brewery Vivant beers will be pouring at the event in Philadelphia, the brewery’s first event in Pennsylvania.
