A West Michigan brewery is moving.

Big Lake Brewing Co. in Holland said last week it has purchased a building in downtown Holland, at 13 W. 7th St., and will move its taproom to the location.

The building was home to Serafina’s Bar and Grill.

Terms of the real estate deal were not disclosed.

“We’re excited to be moving into the downtown Holland area to join other great breweries and restaurants that have paved the way for a company like ours,” Big Lake Brewing Co-Founder Travis Prueter said.

“We’re humbled at how well our product has been received by our community and look forward to increasing our awareness and connection to downtown residents and visitors.”

The taproom will move from a 3,000-square-foot space at Ottawa Village Center, at 977 Butternut Dr., where Big Lake opened in 2013.

About $400,000 worth of renovations on the 7,000-square-foot space will begin immediately, with construction expected to wrap up within four months. The taproom will open in nine to 12 months, depending on liquor license approval.

Forged by Design is the architect on the project, with Midwest Construction leading the renovations and financing by Chemical Bank.

Big Lake Brewing also recently added a production facility to the company on 19th Street in Holland, which increased the brewery’s production capacity from 1,000 barrels a year to 3,000.

The business will continue to make some beers on site at the new taproom location and plans to have a “beer-hall atmosphere with a large outdoor beer garden.”

More than 40 jobs are expected to be created to fill the space.

Big Lake Brewing was founded by Prueter, Nic Winsemius and Greg MacKeller in 2013.
