A brewery is set to release a beer celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Bell’s Brewery in Galesburg will release its 30th Anniversary Ale, an American imperial stout, in September.

The stout will be available in six packs and on draught.

The beer is a nod to another Bell’s beer, its Expedition Stout, which was one of the earliest American examples of an imperial stout.

“This beer is a testament to three-plus decades of hard work,” said Larry Bell, who started Bell’s Brewery by brewing in a 15-gallon soup pot. “It honors all that has helped us get to this point — hard work, quality and authenticity.

“It reminds us of where we’ve been, how we’ve grown over the years, the challenges we’ve faced and at the same time, looks forward to what comes next.”

The 11-percent ABV beer is a “full bodied, roasty stout,” with dark chocolate and fruit notes added by the malt bill. Polaris hops add a “brightness” in the early stages of the beer’s drinkability.

Bell’s said the beer will continue to see its malt characteristics change through the years, as it will be a beer suitable for cellaring.
