A brewery is releasing a special beer to coincide with one of the region’s biggest festivals.

New Holland Brewing Co. released The Hollander yesterday at its Pub on 8th in downtown Holland.

The Hollander

The beer is a collaborative brew with New Holland, Tulip Time, the city of Holland, Windmill Island and several Michigan brewing suppliers.

The saison beer is made with Michigan grown and malted barley, Michigan-grown hops, yeast from the Keweenaw Peninsula and Lake Michigan water.

The suppliers contributing to the beer are Empire Hop Farms, Top Hops, Hopyards of Kent, Hophead Farms, Michigan Malting, Pilot Malt House and Craft Cultures.

Tulip Time

Tulip Time is a celebration of the Dutch heritage in Holland.

This year’s Tulip Time runs from May 7-14, with multiple parades, concerts and other events.

The Hollander will be on tap at several locations throughout Holland during the festival.

Michigan-made commitment

New Holland Brewing has made a commitment to use 100-percent Michigan ingredients in all of its pub-brewed beers.

Some of the brewery’s production products such as Michigan Awesome Hatter, The Carhartt Woodsman, Mad Hatter, Paleooza, Pitchfork Wheat Whiskey and Blue Haven Gin feature Michigan products.

“As someone who has embraced the idea of supporting local farmers and sustainability in my personal life for years, it is truly an honor for me as a brewer to be aligned with a company that will allow me to bring my values to my job,” said Steve Berthel, pub brewer, New Holland Brewing Co.

“I am excited to be able to have a day where we can make a beer that showcases the high-quality ingredients that these Michigan suppliers are providing us and be able to showcase the finished product at this year’s Tulip Time celebration.”
