A brewery in the region is tripling the size of its space.
Tibbs Brewing Co. in Kalamazoo will expand into the downstairs of its current space, which is the former bar and kitchen space of Kegger’s, according to a Facebook post last week.
The brewery is located in the State Theatre Shoppes, at 402 S. Burdick St., which are owned by Roger Hinman and operated by Hinman in Portage.
Construction on the space will begin within the month.
The expansion will increase the brewery’s square footage from 1,000 square feet to more than 3,000 square feet and “hopefully” increase its seating capacity to 120.
The brewery will open a second bar and serving area in one half of the basement.
Tibbs Brewing will also consolidate its brewing operations into the other half of the basement, increasing from a two-barrel brewing system to a four-barrel system. A barrel is 31 gallons.
The new brewing space will “address some ongoing production issues,” the post says.
Planned for growth
“We’ve had our eye on the downstairs since we first looked at our current space early in 2013,” said Kevin Tibbs, owner, Tibbs Brewing Co. “The ability to expand on site was very appealing to us and one of the deciding factors in choosing this location.
“It allowed us to open up small upstairs and use the current space as proof of product.”
