A local brewery’s spin on a traditional Puerto Rican sandwich has won the 2018 Grandwich competition.

City Built Brewing Company’s jibarito sandwich was selected as the winner of the annual contest on Thursday.

“Our Grandwich is served on a crispy plantain bun and filled with flank steak, lettuce, tomato and garlic-mayo-ketchup sauce,” says Edwin Collazo, president and partner, City Built, in a comment on Grandwich's Facebook page.

The competition, which ran July 5-20, gave restaurant patrons a chance to vote for their favorite handhelds from 33 participating local eateries.

After the public vote ended, a panel of judges sampled each of the top 10 sandwiches to determine the winner.

As the champion, City Built will receive a marketing package valued at $1,200.

Grandwich was founded in 2011 by Nicole Infante, who continues as its organizer.
