A brick maker is planning a $9 million expansion project in the region.
Moon Township, Pennsylvania-based HarbisonWalker International, or HWI, plans to expand its 120,000-square-foot plant in Everett Township, at 1301 E. 8th St., to 160,000 square feet, according to The Right Place this month.
The expansion project will include increased manufacturing space, the installation of new manufacturing technology and expanded warehousing capabilities.
The plant employs about 140 people and produces brick and monolithic refractory, or heat resistant, products, primarily for the U.S. steel industry.
Demand for the company’s products has grown over recent years, requiring the expansion, The Right Place said.
HWI worked with The Right Place, an economic development nonprofit based in Grand Rapids, to “ensure the expansion happened locally.”
Everett Township approved a tax abatement for the project.
