A Yesterdog alum and his brother are planning to open a new restaurant on the south side of Grand Rapids next week.
1 Bun Restaurant, at 2140 Division Ave. S, is tentatively scheduling its grand opening for July 3.
The restaurant is owned and operated by Raul Mendez and Nino Torres, who worked as a manager at the Eastown hot dog staple for two decades.
1 Bun Restaurant will serve hot dogs, hamburgers and sloppy Joe’s with a catch — all the items will be served on hot dog buns.
The restaurant will also offer corndogs, fries and Faygo pop.
Torres said the prices are set to get customers out the door with a full meal for less than $5: hot dogs, burgers and sloppy Joe’s will cost $2.20; corndogs $2; steak fries $1.30; and Faygo $1.30.
In addition to food, 1 Bun Restaurant also has a vintage jukebox and plans to acquire a piano that customers can play.
The restaurant has four employees and is looking to do more hiring in the coming weeks.
