A supplier of building products in the region has acquired an out-of-state company.

Novo Building Products, a Zeeland Township-based supplier of moulding, stair parts, doors and specialty millwork, said today it acquired L.J. Smith, a stair parts supplier out of Bowerstone, Ohio.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Tom Highley, CEO of Novo, said the acquisition was highly strategic for Novo’s growth on the national level.

“L.J. Smith has long been considered the preeminent stair parts business in the industry,” Higley said. “The company offers our customers stair part manufacturing and distribution capabilities on a national scale and supports our vision of becoming the leading millwork supplier in North America.”

L.J. Smith started building staircases and parts in Pittsburg under his namesake company in 1885.

The company offers a complete line of core stocking and special-order stair parts to lumberyards and stair builders.

L.J. Smith has eight locations, including four plants, across the U.S.

Novo Building Products was founded in 2016 and is owned by an affiliate of Blue Wolf Capital Fund III, a fund of New York-based Blue Wolf Capital Partners.
