A supplier of building materials is expanding a local facility by 108,000 square feet.

Grand Rapids-based Lumbermen's began a $5.5-million addition to its door manufacturing facility in Byron Center, at 8715 Byron Commerce Dr. SW, last month, according to a.j. Veneklasen, the contractor on the project, this week.

The expansion project should be finished next May and bring the facility up to 306,258 square feet.

The addition, a pre-engineered metal structure, will be used for extra warehouse space, office space and renovations.

Rockford-based Andrus Architects and Moore & Bruggink, a Grand Rapids-baed engineering firm, are part of the project.

Lumbermen’s will continue operations during construction, which is a challenge Grand Rapids-based a.j. Veneklasen enjoys, said Chris Veneklasen, the firm's president.
