A small business incubator focused on agricultural technology has selected a PR firm to help with its marketing and rebranding.

Holland-based Burch Partners said this month the Great Lakes Ag-Tech Business Incubator, or GLATBI, has hired the firm to “increase and broaden statewide awareness of the organization, increase the number of active clients and update its overall brand.”

The firm was selected as a result of a recent grant from the USDA to enhance marketing and outreach efforts.

The funding comes from the Rural Business Development Grant program. The competitive program is designed to support the development or expansion of small and emerging businesses in rural areas with fewer than 50 employees and less than $1 million in gross revenues.

Based in Ottawa County, GLATBI serves entrepreneurs, farmers and small businesses by “leveraging” the region’s “legacy strengths” in agriculture to help develop and nurture ag-tech innovations, “either into a business or commercialize them in partnership with other entities.”

GLATBI provides “hands-on” and customized business services to help clients address their specific challenges as they launch their ag technology into the marketplace.

Paul Sachs, executive director of GLATBI, said ag tech has become a key sector of interest, “making it among the fastest-growing startup sectors,” which means the incubator “needs to upgrade its marketing and brand perception to stay competitive.”

Sachs said Burch Partners’ experience in the areas of startups, incubators and venture capital make it a “perfect fit.”
