A car dealer based in the region is moving into mid-Michigan.

Muskegon-based Betten Baker said yesterday it acquired Alma Chevrolet Buick GMC, at 7440 N. Alger Rd., and Ithaca Chevrolet, at 1031 E. Center St.

The two dealerships are now Betten Baker's easternmost locations and raise the company’s portfolio to 16 locations.

“For some time now, we have been looking to expand into mid-Michigan and connect with that community," said Chris Baker, co-owner, Betten Baker. "Acquiring these well-performing dealerships will give us the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

Baker said the company will retain all employees at both locations.

David Prahl has been brought on to serve as general manager of both dealerships and assume the responsibilities of the previous owner, Tommy Fuerst.

Earlier this year, the company purchased Godfrey Chevrolet Buick in Cadillac, according to a Business Journal article.

Betten Baker celebrated its 35th anniversary in March.
