A popular lakeshore restaurant is trading hands.

Chef Eric Chaitin and his wife, Sue, said yesterday that they have purchased the Ottawa Beach Inn in Holland, a lakeshore landmark for 35 years, at 2155 Ottawa Beach Rd.

The couple plans to keep all the staff and continue serving Ottawa Beach Inn’s popular dishes, such as lake perch, walleye, burgers and burritos.

The Chaitins also plan to add a new menu that will feature “healthy alternatives,” including a weekly Fresh Catch of the Week at the reastaurant.

“Ottawa Beach Inn is a well-known and admired staple within the Holland community,” Eric Chaitin said. “Sue and I are ecstatic about joining this family and look forward to continuing its rich tradition and history.”

Longtime chef

Chaitin has worked in the restaurant industry for more than 28 years.

Most recently, Chaitin was an executive chef at the Grand Rapids-based Watermark Properties, which owns Watermark Country Club, Sunnybrook Country Club, Stone Water Country Club and Reds on the River.

“I was burnt out after so many years in corporate dining,” Chaitin said. ““I think that’s why this community was so appealing.”

He added that Ottawa Beach Inn represents “the best parts of lakeshore living — relaxed atmosphere, friendly people and gorgeous views.”

“I’ve been on site and in the kitchen for about two months now,” Chaitin said. “The welcome from our servers — who are amazing — and this community has been outstanding.”
