A new chemical company is planning to give new life to a former manufacturing site in the region.

American Chemical Solutions, or ACS, recently acquired idled chemical manufacturing assets at three facilities in Muskegon, at 1221 E. Barney Ave., according to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, or MEDC, last week.

The site, which previously manufactured functional dyes for use in thermal and carbonless printing applications, was slated to be demolished prior to the acquisition.

ACS will resume functional dye manufacturing, as well as provide custom and contract manufacturing services on the more than 20-acre site.

The project includes refurbishing equipment, securing roads and replacing equipment and infrastructure that the previous owner has removed and sold, according to MEDC documents.

ACS is led by CEO Todd Zahn, a Michigan resident with decades of experience in the chemical manufacturing industry.

“We see a unique opportunity to create a strong, vibrant manufacturing business, one that will meet the needs of our customers around the world, while helping to spur our city’s ongoing renaissance,” Zahn said.

MEDC approved a $200,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant for the project.
