A Michigan hard cider producer is ready to put out bottles.

Starcut Ciders, a division of Shorts Brewing Co., this week began bottled distribution of three cider varieties across the state. Starcut Ciders became available on tap throughout the state earlier this summer.

Two flagship varieties are included in the release: semi-sweet Octorock and the semi-dry Pulsar.

A seasonal release will rotate in as well, with the first being Squisy, a semi-sweet cider made with late-season apples and Balaton and Montmorency cherries.

The ciders will be in six packs of 12-ounce bottles. Imperial Beverage is the distributor.

Illustrations on the bottles of all three varieties were done by Don Pendleton. Pendleton is most well known for his work on skateboards and the album work for Pearl Jam’s 10th studio album, “Lightning Bolt.”

“It was important to create a memorable icon for each of these ciders,” said Jesse Den Herder, Shorts’ art director. “Don’s work is so unique and was a perfect vehicle to express the personality of each cider.”

Pendleton said working with a craft cider company is akin to the skateboarding scene of the 1980s.

“Having been a part of skateboarding since the ’80s and seeing that industry being driven by smaller brands and unique perspectives, it's very reminiscent of the DIY spirit I grew up with,” he said. “It's always great to see people who are passionate about something doing what they love and putting so much into every detail, whether it's the taste, the quality, or the packaging.”
