A Grand Rapids suburb is considered the “happiest place” in Michigan.

East Grand Rapids is rated the happiest city in the Mitten in a map of the “Happiest Place in Each State,” which was posted last week by the career website Zippia.

Zippia says its map is based on data from the 2010-14 American Community Survey of 7,300 communities with more than 2,000 people.

The company looked at several factors to create its Happiness Index and the national map: being well educated; having a job; short commute to work; low cost of living; having a family; owning a home; and poverty rate.
