An economic development agency in the region is offering $200,000 for a new brewery, brewpub or distiller to open in its town.

Battle Creek Unlimited, a Battle Creek-based economic development agency, has posted an RFP offering the financial assistance to the new downtown Battle Creek operation.

The agency will work with the winner to establish and market the business, which could be a new business or an expansion.

There are currently no breweries, brewpubs or distilleries in downtown Battle Creek.

The operation must provide lunch and dinner service within about 12 months of opening.

Some other minimum requirements include experience in the industry and an ability to secure additional capital.

On-site production is encouraged, as are partnerships with development companies.

Applicants do not need to be from Michigan.

The proposal content should include details about plans, tentative milestones and economic impact.

Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. on March 2.

The RFP is posted online.
